Known for his exquisite couture ensembles, Shantanu Goenka’s collections recurrently follow the underlying theme of extravagance and elegance. His varied inspirations are portrayed with as much élan, and “Fashioning Fairy Tales” - an elaborate exposition of his latest works - is no different.
The exposition, which was launched in Kolkata earlier this year, was showcased for the first time in New Delhi on 5th August. The presentation was showcased over Grey Goose cocktails and specially crafted modern European hors d’oeuvres by QLA at Evoluzione, The Kila, which was transformed into a magical land of fairy tales. The fantastical inspiration manifested through the couture garments set against elaborate installations and themed décor elements from art, light and sound.
The couture ensembles have been designed using a decadently elegant and delicate usage of the new range of Swarovski crystals in tones of opals along with the crystal rose patina and crystal gold patina effects which bring alive a vintage look reminiscent of the fairy tales. Vivek Ramabhadran, Managing Director, Swarovski Professional India said “Shantanu Goenka and Swarovski have had a long standing relationship. We are particularly excited at the couture collection he created earlier this year, which is now being launched in Delhi as well. True to his signature style of delicate and intensive embroidery work, you will also see an interesting use of new colours and effects from the Swarovski canvas like the crystal rose and gold patina effects which he has artfully used to create a vintage yet fairytale vision”
The exposition presented a series of curated displays that celebrate style and story, the relationship between narrative and fashion. Shantanu believes fairy tales and fashion have very similar narrative; they can script adventure, romance, all kinds of possibilities just through what one wears. Every component of the exposition was created and curated by the designer to represent fashion and Couture through fairytales like Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White and Alice in wonderland amongst other. Shantanu also showcased his menswear pieces through the story of 3 Little Pigs.
Speaking about the exposition, Shantanu said “I am extremely excited about presenting my collection in Delhi and have tried to present my garments in a unique way, the amalgamation of all elements will transport you into the mystical land of fairytales.
By converging fashion and technology we can play with fantasy to explore new ways of telling a story and that is exactly what we aimed at exploring through this exposition.
The event saw New Delhi’s fashion fraternity and elite in attendance, who were seen consumed by the magical setup and showcase.
