Vintage Bloom By Amrita KM

Dreamy, modish and undeniably elegant, Amrita KM’s Autumn-Winter 2015 line is on the lust-list of fashionistas this season. There’s no denying the importance of the Victorian era in the lineage of haute couture. Think ruffled skirts, ribbons, high collars, cinched waists, lace accents, elaborate ball-gowns and exquisite hairstyles. Victorian fashion seamlessly blended high-octane glamour and progressive androgyny. Inspired by this vintage period, Delhi-based Amrita KM’s Autumn-Winter 2015 line is poised to take the capital by storm.

The Collection – An Ode to romance:
Re-interpreting Victorian glamour for the contemporary, fashion-forward woman, Amrita’s designs are elegant and flamboyant, perfect for that monsoon brunch or an evening soiree. Pleated dhoti pants and on-trend elephant pants fall softly, paired with floral tunics, even as the churidaar kurta gets a swish makeover, taking it from a high-profile work day to a party.

Key pieces from the collection include a classic Chinese collar sleeveless blouse with sheer back panel teamed with a stunning ivory sari with carnelian floral cutouts on the pallu. Cutouts, floral prints and ombre shading are some of the key elements that distinguish this collection. Amrita professes a love for romantic fabrics like georgette, chiffon and crepe that define the female form while keeping silhouettes very statuesque and royal. The delightful colour palette moves from sea green, ivory, coral, blush pink, aquamarine and buttercup yellow to bold indigo, navy and flaming scarlet.

The Label – Progressive traditions:
Established in 2012, Amrita KM is the eponymous label of the Delhi-based designer. A former media professional, and NIFT alumnus, she was drawn to designing from an early age and inspired by India’s history and heritage.  With a global aesthetic, Amrita is keen on showcasing Indian traditions in modern silhouettes. Her luxurious designs address global issues of identity, the perceived value of longevity versus the beauty of wear and tear and the intense relationship of a woman with  her closet. Her muse is the contemporary Indian woman who travels the world, easily blends into multiple roles and stays timelessly glamorous through it all.
